Geographic considerations
Where Does SoloWise Work?
SoloWise is designed to work across geographic boundaries. The core SoloWise service is available virtually anywhere in the world with a reliable internet connection, whether you're at home, traveling across the country, or spending time abroad.
SoloWise reminders and alert notifications are sent by email by default, providing broad international reach. SMS messaging and native app availability have some additional country-specific considerations, explained below.
Don't see your country listed? Contact our member support team to check if your country has been recently added to our list of SMS-verified countries.
Global Web Service
SoloWise is a web-based service, so its core functionality is not limited to any specific regional service area.
With an internet connection, members can access SoloWise, manage their account, receive in-app reminders, and check in to Timers from virtually anywhere in the world.
Your SoloWise account travels with you. A Timer created at home can still be accessed and completed while you're traveling elsewhere, including internationally, and even from one device to another.
Email Messages
Email is the default messaging method for SoloWise and has very few geographic limitations.
Check-in reminders are sent to members and alert notifications are sent to their trusted contacts via email.
A member traveling abroad can continue using SoloWise while trusted contacts remain at home. If everyone involved has internet access and can receive email, geographic distance makes no difference to the check-in and alert process.
SMS Messages
SMS messaging works differently from websites and email because messages must pass through mobile carriers and telecomm networks.
SoloWise has verified connections in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Sweden, and Australia. These countries represent mobile-number coverage that SoloWise has directly verified. They do not necessarily represent the only physical locations where a SoloWise member can send or receive SMS messages.
Additional countries may be supported as SoloWise expands and verifies its international messaging capabilities.
Native Apps
Web access and app-store availability are separate.
The core SoloWise service does not require installing a mobile app. Members can access SoloWise through a web browser anywhere internet connectivity is available.
Availability of the SoloWise Android and iOS apps may vary by country based on distribution through Google Play and the Apple App Store.
A country where a native SoloWise app is not yet offered may still have full access to the core SoloWise web service.
If you travel internationally while keeping a supported home-country mobile number, SoloWise SMS messaging may continue to work even when you're physically outside that country.
For example, a member with a U.S. mobile number may be able to continue receiving SoloWise SMS reminders and sending SMS responses while traveling in Europe, Asia, or elsewhere.
International SMS while traveling depends on your mobile carrier, roaming plan, the visited network, and compatible SMS service. Because those factors are outside SoloWise's control, SMS delivery while roaming cannot be guaranteed.
For international travel, keeping email enabled provides an additional and broadly available communication channel.
Connection across borders
Using SoloWise Internationally
SoloWise can be useful for international travelers precisely because the core service is not tied to a particular geographic service area.
A traveler can use SoloWise abroad while trusted contacts remain at home—or designate contacts located in completely different countries. Email provides the broadest international communication option, while SMS availability depends primarily on the mobile numbers and carrier networks involved.
Before traveling, we recommend confirming that your device will have internet access and, if you plan to use SMS, that your mobile carrier supports messaging while roaming.
A connection is needed to check in — not for SoloWise to recognize a missed check-in. Accessing the SoloWise web app and submitting a check-in requires an internet connection. Email reminders require internet access to be received, while SMS reminders and responses require compatible cellular service.
However, your device does not need to remain connected for SoloWise to send alerts after a missed check-in. SoloWise tracks your timer independently. If you do not check in by the required time, SoloWise can notify your designated contacts even if your own phone is offline, out of cellular range, powered off, or otherwise unreachable.
This distinction is especially important in remote areas where internet or cellular coverage may be intermittent. Limited connectivity may prevent you from checking in, so members should consider expected coverage when choosing their timer and check-in schedule.
